Your driver will meet you at the hotel and take you to your first stop on your Sri Lankan adventure – Millennium Elephant Foundation (Optional – elephant ride) and learn about these amazing creatures up close. We recommend you to visit MEF instead of the Elephant orphanage. MEF is a place where they cure sick elephants (a normal person cants see they are sick), you get one elephant assigned and you personally can spend some time with him, have a short ride (without steal cages since that is hurting elephants) and wash him in the river. The entrance fee is 2000/= and your money goes for the treatment of elephants. That’s why we support them. There is also a small museum so you can learn some new facts. Pinnawala is less personal and usually 50 or more tourist stand in a circle and take pictures of the elephants.

We will also visit a local Herbal and Spice garden where you can learn more about Sri Lankan Ayurveda medicine, natural herbs and spices used for cooking.

We will continue with a visit of the tea factory to see how the world’s favorite drink is prepared and enjoy a cup of real Sri Lankan tea. It possible to taste and purchase tea in the factory.

An alternative to the tea factory is the visit of the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. At one time these beautiful botanical gardens were reserved exclusively for Kandyan royalty. Today even commoners are allowed into what are, at 60 hectares, the largest and most impressive botanic gardens in Sri Lanka.

If you would like to we can also take you to a local gem shop, where they will show you how mining in Sri Lanka is done by hand without electricity. Did you know we have the best natural sapphires in the world and all the jewellery is handmade?

In the afternoon we will climb up the second tallest Buddha statue on the island by the name of Bahirawakanda. It will give you an amazing view of the town itself.
